Lionsgate acquired Hatten’s specific script for the film in 2017, which led to him contributing to the final screenplay for Parabellum and later serving as head writer for Chapter 4.

In October 2019, Wiseman was hired as director, and the director of franchise Chad Stahelski was confirmed as director. producer by May 2020. Ballerina was officially announced in April 2022, and de Armas was confirmed to replace Unity Phelan, who played the character in Parabellum, in the lead role; By November of that year, the rest of the main cast was complete. Elodie manages to escape, but the royal family, led by Queen Isabella, plans to sacrifice Elodie’s sister, Floria, as a substitute. Elodie returns to the lair to save her sister, confronting the dragon and revealing the truth about the royal family’s deception. In a climactic battle, Elodie defeats the dragon using its own fire.
