Ever since the completion of Apollo 17’s mission and subsequent return to Earth in 1972, the United States has kept its lunar landing program on standby. Suspending all operations, mankind has not had another landing on the moon for half a century now.
And as NASA still hasn’t given any official answer to quell public curiosity, speculations and even conspiracy theories continue to mushroom.
But in 2019, NASA announced that they would be sending astronauts to the moon again in 2024. Called the Artemis program, the mission will send “the first woman and the next man” to the moon to perform important tasks. And if successful, this mission will mark the second walk on the moon since 1972.
It all started in September 1962, when US President John Kennedy announced plans to land on the moon.
He announced: “We choose to go to the Moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard, because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to win, and the others, too.”
And as promised, the first man, an American, landed on the moon in 1969 during Apollo 11.
Yet Apollo 17’s successful mission and return to Earth in December 1972 would mark the sixth and last mission to the moon by the Apollo Project, becoming the last public record of humans on the moon.
It begs the question: If what humankind knows about the moon remains so minuscule, then why did the United States suspend the Moon Landing Program?
According to the U.S. government, NASA’s termination of future missions to the moon was due to “financial constraints”, an argument not exactly convincing to many people today. The real reason, however, may be more astonishing.
During the 1969 Apollo Moon mission, there was a two-minute gap in radio transmissions after landing. This was no accident, book author David Childress explained, as information during these 2 minutes were actually withheld from the public.
Mr. Childress said: “The astronauts apparently talked about seeing extraterrestrial objects on the Moon, including flying saucers parked along the edge of a crater within their view.”
So is it true? The public still doesn’t truly know, and NASA has yet to confirm or deny such claims.
Later during the “Apollo 15” landing on the moon, receivers on Earth captured what sounded like a very long whistle. As its pitch changed, a phrase consisting of 20 syllables surfaced and was repeated many times. According to a report by the Huffington Post on February 20, 2016, several lost records later resurfaced to reveal an encounter shared by three astronauts in the Apollo 10 mission during their return to Earth. Explained more in the Science Channel’s “NASA’s Unexplained Files,” the sound heard from space seemed otherworldly. The three astronauts continually affirmed, during a recorded dialogue, that the sound was something never heard before:
“…it sounds like music from outer space…hear it? The whistle…(it’s) surely a strange kind of music!”
NASA did not comment on this as well.
A Display of Suspension
It was ultimately in the 1970s when then US President Nixon ordered “Apollo 18” to stop; just as it was preparing for takeoff. And since then, humankind has not returned.
However, this could have only been a display. Decades later, rumors surfaced that two NASA astronauts accidentally discovered an old videotape, revealing a top classified secret:
That the “Apollo 18” not only launched but it also landed on the moon successfully.
Feedback from the spacecraft’s astronauts also note that they found alien life on the moon. But of course, this videotape has never been made public. And due to government intervention, the authenticity of the rumor remains difficult to verify.
Many also claim that in December 1974, three American astronauts that accompanied “Apollo 18” on a confidential moon landing mission mysteriously disappeared because of “direct contact with a mysterious alien object on the moon”. In a panic, the United States announced to abort the plan. NASA did, however, come forward this time to voice that this mission did not exist.
In 1973, NASA finally published some results of the lunar mission for the first time. In a declassified statement, NASA stated that all 25 astronauts involved in the Apollo mission to the moon had encountered unidentified flying objects (UFOs) there as well. More importantly, Wernher von Braun, the former head of the US moon landing program, said that several “Apollo” missions to the moon were monitored by some mysterious force outside the earth. In 1979, Maurice Chatelain, the former chief of communications at NASA, said that it was a “common thing” for astronauts to meet with UFOs on the moon.
And while NASA officials have never disclosed the details of astronauts’ encounters with alien life during moon landings, they did release a recording of the first press conference after the return of Apollo 11. At the conference, however, there was no joy on the faces of the three astronauts. What should have been an exciting and thrilling experience to be on the moon for the first time in human history turned out to be depressing as they sullenly looked down.
As to why the uneasy behavior, it’s unclear. Perhaps like the many after them, NASA may have ordered the three not to disclose what they discovered about the existence of extraterrestrial life.
In recent years, more and more Americans are starting to doubt the accomplishment of Project Apollo. According to Wired magazine, up to 25 million Americans now believe that the moon landing was an unprecedented scam in NASA’s history. Other theories, though unverified, explain that the astronauts likely encountered a secret during their visit, something that NASA tried to keep confidential even from them.
Multiple media outlets have now reported the US’ possible cover up of information regarding the moon landings, such as the photographic evidence of the two dozen human-like footprints that were spotted during the first landing. Today’s scientists have also publicly expressed their belief in the existence of other life in the universe. Leroy Chiao, a former Chinese astronaut from NASA, famously also said that the universe “is full of lives.” As a result, society has increasingly accepted this belief.
After more than half a century, the United States once again plans to send astronauts to the moon. The world is ready. But is NASA ready?
