The Thula Thula Rhino Orphanage in South Africa is home to many endangered wildlife species like rhinos, leopards, zebras, and elephants, among others. This is the story of Ellie, a baby elephant, who was found dying after being rejected by his herd

Baby elephant Ellie was found wandering alone in South Africa.

Adult elephants in the region are killed by poaching, and their offspring are left without a mother. But Ellie’s situation was different. She was excluded from the herd. The baby elephant was in very bad shape when it was found.

Ellie was born with a slew of ailments that heavily pulled down his chances of survival. The sanctuary workers didn’t think he would be able to make it on his own, so they fed him and nursed him for many days and nights until his health finally started to improve!

Unfortunately, 90% of baby elephants with an umbilical hernia cannot hold on to life. At first, it was thought that this baby would not live. Fortunately, Ellie survived. However, he was very bored. He had no family or friends.

However, elephants are known to be very social beings who usually cannot thrive outside their herd. So, even when Ellie regained his health, he was still a depressed and lethargic baby with no will to live.
The volunteers who found the animal were heartbroken when they saw that the baby elephant distanced itself from everyone and always slept in a corner. Although Ellie was ostracized by her pack, it was clear that she missed them. Until she met her best friend…

Ellie, who met the dog named Duma, loved her new friend very much. Look at how well the two get along.

In this precious video, we see how Duma helped Ellie survive against all odds. Ellie developed a spark for life under Duma’s loving and gentle presence. Ellie still has a long road of recovery ahead of him, but with Duma by his side, that road doesn’t seem so lonely for him anymore!
