Awesome or Off Putting is a weekly delve into cryptozoology, ufology, medical marvels, scientific wonders, strange facts or just plain weird, weird goings-on.
This week: Ufology
UFOs exist, or they don’t. Everyone can agree to that. The nay-sayers have the easier route to debate. So little tangible evidence has ever been left by the space craft it’d be easy to whisk it all away as the ravings of the sci-fi hopeful and chemically imbalanced. What happens though, when a sighting includes loads of witnesses of both a crashed craft and red eyed aliens wandering around in a confused post traumatic state?

Ardent government denial, that’s what.
In January of 1996, the Brazilian military allegedly took several alien entities into custody. The beings were said to be the survivors of a UFO crash in the area of Varginha, Brazil, and had been reported by several locals over a vast period of months.
It is unclear whether the sightings were of a few ETs seen repeatedly, or of a dozen or so sighted alone and on separate occasions. The only thing that is clear is there are several people from the small villagemof 120,000 that have claimed the privilege.

The first reported sighting was on January 20, 1996 by three females: Liliane and Valaquira Fatima, and Andrade Xavier, whose ages ranged from 14-21. They were taking a shortcut through a vacant lot where they saw the ET crouching, facing inward towards a wall. Then the girls ran home in an absolute panic. They described it as being 1.6 meters tall, had a large head, thin body, red eyes and two V-shaped feet. They also claimed it seemed a bit wobbly, and assumed it was sick or injured. Their first thoughts were that it had been a devil.

Further reports have it that earlier in the day the Brazilianmmilitary had taken another entity into custody in a patch of woods three blocks away from the girl’s vacant lot. Another witness stated he saw the military searching those same woods, and even heard three shots fired. When the military emerged, they allegedly had two bags, one squirming, and one deathly still.

A couple days later another ET was found at the side of a road, whether it was dead or alive is unclear. Several military trucks were reportedly sent to retrieve it. The government denies any of this is true.
Remember the scene in the M. Knight Shyamalan movie Signs where a child’s birthday party was being video taped, and the alien steps out from behind a building, leading directly to urine covered theatre seats the world over? Rumour on the web is that scene was inspired by this crash, as a very similar report was filed, minus the
camera.

The sightings extend over a lengthy period of time too. In April Mrs. Therezinha Gallo Clepf, 67, reported spotting a creature in a wooded area of the Varginha zoo. The sighting lasted for about five solid minutes, as the woman was
afraid to move. This is her description according to a team from Brazil’s UFO magazine:
“According to her story, the difference between the creature she saw and the one observed by the girls was the helmet she saw covering the creature’s head, which stopped her (from) seeing the ears and horns that probably it should have (based on the girls’ description).
The rest was similar : the being had also dark brown skin, bright and oily, a rounded face, red eyes, and didn’t have cheeks, nor beard, mustache or nose, and, on the lips position, it had
only a cut.”

In May of ’06 a motorist reported a sighting. In late 1996 a witness came forward claiming to have seen the actual UFO crash.
There’s far more to this story than what we’ve included here. If you’d like to know more we’d suggest you follow the link below, or run a couple of the terms found here through the ol’ Google search engine.
Whichever side of this debate you are inclined to take, both believers and non-believers could make a strong case for themselves. The nons could say there’s no hard evidence proving the creatures existence, or that of their crashed UFO. The believers could argue that the shear amount of witnesses would be enough to stand up in any court of law.
Fortunately for all argumentally inclined, only one opinion matters: hecklerspray‘s, and that is that this is all Awesome.
