A loyal dog waited for its owner on a bridge for four days after watching its owner jump into the river. Photos of the dog waiting on the bridge have gone viral on social media.
In the photos, you could see the dog sitting on the bridge and kept staring longingly out into the river. As it turned out, he was waiting for his owner who took his own life by jumping into the river.
According to reports, the dog followed his owner to the bridge and witnessed this heartbroken sight on May 30. The bridge officers checked the surveillance footage and confirmed this.
The loyal pooch was photographed in Wuhan, China, on a pavement by the Yangtze Bridge.
Xu expressed on social media his wish to adopt the dog and to give him a forever happy home. Sadly, the dog refused to eat or drink anything Xu gave him. The good man tried to pick up the dog, but the pooch got scared and ran away from him. It is clear that the dog still hopes that his beloved owner would come back.
Du Fan, the director of the Wuhan Small Animal Protection Association, later found out the owner had died by suicide after asking officials to investigate what had happened.
Speaking to Pear Video, he said: “We asked the bridge officers to check what exactly happened. It was really dark, [we] couldn’t see much on the surveillance footage.
Local volunteers are trying to search for the loyal pooch. He has requested people to come forward to tell about the whereabouts of the canine.
“We still hope to find a new owner for the dog. We think it’s too sad for such a loyal dog to stray on the streets,” Du added.
Xu’s post, which has gone viral on Weibo, a Chinese microblogging platform, has made netizens teary-eyed. One user said, “Omg this makes me teared up. Guys, please cherish your life and remember there are a lot people who love you.” Another wrote, “Hope they can find the dog soon so it doesn’t have to stray anymore. Find a good family who would treat it well!”
This news comes after reports of a seven-year-old mongrel, named Xiao Bao, patiently waiting for his owner in the lobby of a hospital in Wuhan. Sadly, the dog’s owner had passed away from COVID-19 after spending just five days in the hospital. The canine was shifted to a shelter by the Wuhan Small Animal Protection Association last month.
