BARBARELLA – First Trailer (2025)

A remake of the 1960s cult classic Barbarella is currently in the works with Sydney Sweeney set to star, and there are already a ton of exciting updates about the new movie. Based on the French comic series by artist Jean-Claude Forest, 1968’s Barbarella stars Jane Fonda as the titular space traveler who is dispatched on a dangerous mission to find the evil scientist Durand Durand who has created a weapon that could destroy all humanity. Though not as famous as contemporaries like 2001: A Space Odyssey, Barbarella helped shape the face of science fiction for decades to come.

Critics weren’t fond of the film when it debuted, and it wasn’t the box office bonanza that producers had hoped it would be. Nevertheless, Barbarella immediately became a cult classic and saw an explosion of popularity as subsequent generations enjoyed the campy space comedy.

What the movie did so well was capture the burgeoning sexual revolution and put it through the lens of sci-fi cheese, and it has stood the test of time. Now, a remake is in the works that could finally bring a current spin to Barbarella, and modern-day megastar Sydney Sweeney is attached to star.

Sydney Sweeney is heading to outer space in a new “Barbarella” movie. The actor confirmed the news on Instagram on Oct. 11, writing, “time to save the universe” alongside a screenshot of Deadline’s announcement of the project.

According to the outlet, the “White Lotus” actor is set to star as the title hero and executive produce. The film is in development, with no writer or producer attached.Jane Fonda famously played Barbarella in a 1968 film directed by Roger Vadim.

The character first appeared in a French comic series by Jean-Claude Forest. The film ultimately became a cult classic and is considered one of Fonda’s most impactful roles.

Fonda reflected on her character’s legacy in an April interview with Vanity Fair, saying, “All these young men later kept telling me it was the first erection they had, watching ‘Barbarella.’ And I thought, I’ll take that. That’s a good thing to be responsible for.

KARATE KID 2 Teaser (2024)

The Karate Kid is a 1984 American martial arts drama film written by Robert Mark Kamen and directed by John G. Avildsen. It is the first installment in the Karate Kid franchise, and stars Ralph Macchio, Pat Morita, Elisabeth Shue and William Zabka.

The Karate Kid follows Daniel LaRusso (Macchio), a teenager taught karate by Mr. Miyagi (Morita) to help defend himself and compete in a tournament against his bullies, one of whom is Johnny Lawrence (Zabka), the ex-boyfriend of his love interest Ali Mills (Shue).

Kamen was approached by Columbia Pictures to compose a film similar to Avildsen’s previous success Rocky (1976), after signing the director. Kamen drew inspiration from his own life when writing the film. As a result, he maintained strong opinions regarding cast, and petitioned heavily for Morita’s inclusion.

Preparations for the film began immediately after the final edit of the script was complete, and casting took place between April and June 1983. Principal photography began on October 31, 1983, in Los Angeles, and completed by December 16, 1983. The film was Macchio’s second major film role following The Outsiders (1983).

The Karate Kid was theatrically released in the United States on June 22, 1984. The film received mostly positive reviews from critics, many of whom praised the action sequences, writing, themes, performances, and music. The film was also a commercial success, grossing over $130 million worldwide, making it one of the highest-grossing films of 1984 and Hollywood’s biggest sleeper hit of the year.

The film revitalized the acting career of Morita, who was previously known mostly for comedic roles, and earned him a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor. The film subsequently launched a media franchise and is credited for popularizing karate in the United States.

Karate Kid 2” continues the story from the original film, following Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and his mentor Mr. Miyagi (Pat Morita). This sequel sees the duo traveling to Okinawa, Japan, where Mr. Miyagi faces unresolved issues from his past and where Daniel confronts new challenges.

Plot: After returning from a karate tournament, Daniel and Mr. Miyagi visit Okinawa, where Miyagi’s past love, Yukie, and his old rival, Sato, live. Daniel finds himself caught in a local feud and a new karate challenge. The film explores themes of tradition, honor, and reconciliation, with intense martial arts sequences and personal growth for both Daniel and Mr. Miyagi.

Review: “Karate Kid 2” builds on the success of the original with a mix of action and heartfelt moments. The picturesque setting of Okinawa adds a new dimension to the story, and the film’s focus on Miyagi’s backstory enriches the character’s depth. The martial arts choreography is engaging, and the film maintains a balance between action and emotional depth. While it may not reach the heights of the original, it successfully expands on the characters and themes introduced in the first film, offering a satisfying continuation for fans of the series.

Captain America: Brave New World

Captain America is a superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by cartoonists Joe Simon and Jack Kirby, the character first appeared in Captain America Comics #1 (cover dated March 1941) from Timely Comics, a predecessor of Marvel Comics. Captain America was designed as a patriotic supersoldier who often fought the Axis powers of World War II and was Timely Comics’ most popular character during the wartime period. The popularity of superheroes waned following the war, and the Captain America comic book was discontinued in 1950, with a short-lived revival in 1953. Since Marvel Comics revived the character in 1964, Captain America has remained in publication.

The character wears a costume bearing an American flag motif, and he utilizes a nearly-indestructible shield that he throws as a projectile. Captain America is the alter ego of Steve Rogers, a frail young artist enhanced to the peak of human perfection by an experimental “super-soldier serum” after joining the military to aid the United States government’s efforts in World War II. Near the end of the war, he was trapped in ice and survived in suspended animation until he was revived in modern times. Although Captain America often struggles to maintain his ideals as a man out of his time, he remains a highly respected figure both with the American public and in the superhero community, which includes becoming the long-time leader of the Avengers.

Captain America was the first Marvel Comics character to appear in media outside comics with the release of the 1944 movie serial, Captain America. Since then, the character has been featured in other films and television series. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), the character is portrayed by Chris Evans. Captain America was ranked sixth on IGN’s “Top 100 Comic Book Heroes of All Time” in 2011, second in their list of “The Top 50 Avengers” in 2012, and second in their “Top 25 best Marvel superheroes” list in 2014.

JASON BOURNE 6:(2024)

Jason Bourne is a 2016 American action-thriller film directed by Paul Greengrass and written by Greengrass and Christopher Rouse. It is the fifth installment of the Bourne film series and a direct sequel to The Bourne Ultimatum (2007). Matt Damon reprises his role as the main character, former CIA assassin Jason Bourne. In addition, the film stars Tommy Lee Jones, Alicia Vikander, Julia Stiles, Vincent Cassel, Riz Ahmed, Ato Essandoh, and Scott Shepherd.

The character Aaron Cross, from The Bourne Legacy (2012), does not appear in the film because director Greengrass wanted to focus on the title character, and because actor Jeremy Renner was unable to participate due to scheduling conflicts. In Jason Bourne, Bourne remains on the run from CIA hit squads as he tries to uncover hidden truths about his father, while CIA director Robert Dewey (Jones) orders the head of cyber-security Heather Lee (Vikander) to hunt him down. Principal photography on the film commenced on September 8, 2015.

Jason Bourne premiered in London on July 11, 2016, and was theatrically released in the U.S. by Universal Pictures on July 29, 2016. A 3D version was also released in limited Asian countries, namely China, India, the Philippines, and Vietnam. The film received mixed reviews and grossed $415 million worldwide.

EXTRACTION 3 (2024)

Chris Hemsworth’s Tyler Rake is now the center of a new franchise as Extraction 3 is confirmed to be on the way — and anticipation for cast, story, and release date news for the Extraction and Extraction 2 sequel is high. Based on the graphic novel Ciudad by Ande Parks, Joe Russo, Anthony Russo, Fernando León González, and Eric Skillman, the Extraction franchise focuses on black ops mercenary Tyler Rake (Hemsworth).

In the first Extraction movie, released on Netflix in 2020, Rake is tasked with rescuing the kidnapped son of an Indian crime lord. 2023’s Extraction 2, in which Rake is hired to break a Georgian gangster’s family out of prison, turned Extraction into a franchise. Given how successful it’s been for Netflix, the news Extraction 3 is on the way wasn’t surprising — although was incredibly well-received.

Extraction 3 also proves that Extraction has been both an audience success and Chris Hemsworth’s most significant role since Thor. When Extraction became Netflix’s most-watched original movie ever they didn’t waste any time greenlighting a sequel, and Extraction 3 continued this trend (along with news of possible spinoffs).

The Extraction 3 cast will likely contain many news surprises just like its predecessor, along with some returning faces as Netflix further builds the Extraction property into a franchise. As far as many audience members are concerned, however, the key information is what the Extraction 3 story could have in store for Tyler Rake when the release date arrives.

Extraction 3” continues the high-stakes action of its predecessors, following Tyler Rake (played by Chris Hemsworth) as he embarks on a new, dangerous mission. After surviving the events of the first two films, Rake is now a highly sought-after mercenary. In this installment, he is tasked with rescuing a kidnapped high-profile target from a heavily fortified location.

The film ramps up the action with intense combat sequences, daring escapes, and explosive confrontations. Rake’s journey is fraught with personal and physical challenges as he grapples with his past and the increasing threats surrounding him. His skills and determination are put to the ultimate test as he fights against overwhelming odds to complete his mission and protect those he cares about.

THE CONJURING 4: LAST RITES

With the latest chapter in the franchise teasing its future, director Michael Chaves offers an update on The Conjuring 4 after The Nun II’s post-credits scene.

The Nun II also sees the returns of Taissa Farmiga as Sister Irene and Bonnie Aarons as the eponymous demon Valak, who embarks on a streak of murders of priests and nuns across Europe in search of a powerful artifact.

In honor of the movie’s release, SlashFilm caught up with Michael Chaves to break down The Nun II. When asked about the movie’s post-credits scene and how it sets up the in-development The Conjuring: The Last Rites, the franchise director noted that writing is still ongoing for the fourth mainline movie and acknowledged that “it could go a couple different ways,” but expressed his excitement for it and teased there is “a great finale” planned for it.
