On March 1, 1639, English puritan lawyer John Winthrop described the first UFO sighting in the United States. At a time when English colonists were landing on the east coast of America, John Winthrop, a founding member of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, spotted something strange in the sky of Boston. He even made a note of it in his diary.

Winthrop said that a man called James Everell (whom he described as “sober and discreet”) was rowing his boat on the Muddy River late at night when they noticed a light in the sky.

“It flamed up and was about three yards square when it stopped,” he said. It contracted into the shape of a swine when it ran.” According to the boatmen, the mysterious light had been following them for two to three hours, making rounds between them and the village of Charlestown (about 2 miles from their boat). That night, it was also witnessed by other reputable people.

The three men had no idea how they got one mile upstream after the odd light vanished, according to Winthrop. They had no recollection of going against the river’s flow, though the wind could have taken them upstream. “Unexplained Aerial Objects from Antiquity to Modern Times,” write Jacques Vallee and Chris Aubeck in their book.

” Some academics believe that if such an incident occurred in modern times, it would be classified as extraterrestrial abduction.

Although others speculated that the large light seen by the boatmen was really a mirage or natural occurrence, this does not account for the light’s speed.

In his diary, Winthrop noted more UFO experiences. “About midnight, three men, arriving in a boat to Boston, saw two lights come out of the water near the north point of the town cove, in form of a man, and traveled at a small distance to the town, and then to the south point, and there vanished away,” he wrote on January 18, 1644.

He also wrote about another amazing inexplicable aerial incident that occurred in Boston in the same year. According to him, a bright spherical object appeared from the New England colony in Boston at 8 p.m. and combined with another light at Nottles Island (historical Boston Harbor Island). Before they vanished, they performed various moves. “Sometimes they shot out flames, and sometimes they shot out sparkles,” he continued. This happened at eight o’clock in the evening, and several people saw it.”

The invention of the telescope opened various secrets of space in the 1600s, which might be regarded the beginning of modern science. Humans were planning for space exploration and landing on the Moon at the time. The reports of the Englishman are among the earliest accounts of UFO experiences. NASA offers a list of documented Lunar events between 1540 and 1967 in which one event does not match the others.

In November 1668, Colonial Preacher Cotton Mather spotted a UFO on the Lunar surface, according to a NASA document (ID 19680018720) headed “Chronological Catalog of Reported Lunar Events.” Mather claimed that when looking through his telescope at the Moon, he noticed a flying object on the Moon’s dark side.

This extraordinary sighting would have been lost to history if it hadn’t been for NASA.
