“The Time Machine” (2002) is a science fiction film directed by Simon Wells, based on H.G. Wells’ classic novel. The story follows Dr. Alexander Hartdegen, played by Guy Pearce, an inventor in Victorian-era New York. 
Devastated by a personal tragedy, he builds a time machine to change the past. When his attempts to alter history fail, he travels forward in time, reaching the year 802,701 AD. 
There, he discovers a divided world where the peaceful Eloi are preyed upon by the monstrous Morlocks. Alexander befriends a young Eloi woman named Mara, portrayed by Samantha Mumba.
