The incident occurred during a heated segment on The Hard Truth with Clay Travis, where Gaines, a former NCAA swimmer and outspoken critic of transgender athletes in women’s sports, was asked about Biles’ recent comments defending inclusivity in athletics. Gaines, known for her combative style, smirked before delivering the incendiary remark:

“Sorry, Simone—stay in your lane, girl.”

The phrase, loaded with racial undertones, immediately drew gasps from the studio audience. Critics argue that Gaines’ choice of words—particularly the condescending use of “girl” toward a Black woman—echoes historic racial microaggressions meant to diminish Black excellence.
