Alex Pereira has finally addressed Jamahal Hill’s recent Instagram post, in which Hill took aim at Pereira for his exuberant celebration after knocking him out in the main event of UFC 300. The former light heavyweight champion sought to downplay his defeat to Pereira by boasting about his own victory over Pereira’s mentor, Glover Teixeira, at UFC 283.
In a lengthy caption, Hill characterized his win over Teixeira as a “one-sided *ss whooping” and contrasted it with Pereira’s decision to celebrate his knockout of Hill. He stated, “Now I haven’t really spoke on this, but I went to Brazil and DOGG WALKED your guy in one of the most one-sided *ss whoopings in championship history and showed nothing but respect after! I’ve never celebrated over an opponent I beat, even calling out my fans for disrespecting Johnny Walker after I slept him!”
Clearly irritated by Pereira’s viral celebration, Hill continued to dismiss the Brazilian’s knockout by implying that he only landed the finishing blow due to Herb Dean’s interference. He wrote, “But because I showed competitive fire and was excited to be back after an injury that could’ve ended my career, y’all think this is funny or cool! @alexpoatanpereira, you really set up a punch you couldn’t get to without a weird confusing moment and did some weak sh*t, but it’s okay because you will fight me again, and my eyes won’t leave you until you’re as stiff as Izzy left you in Miami!”
Hill’s comments sparked a largely negative reaction on social media, but Pereira was quick to respond, unapologetic and warning Hill of the consequences of his trash talk. In a comment on Hill’s post, ‘Poatan’ fired back, “You reap what you sow, chama.”
Not one to back down, Hill retaliated with his own warning, reminding Pereira to keep his words in mind the next time they face off: “@alexpoatanpereira yeah remember that next time you’re across from me!!!”
Hill is determined to secure another fight with Pereira in the future, but first, he must focus on UFC 303, where he is set to battle Carlos Ulberg.
