Max Verstappen is in talks with these four Formula 1 teams as he leaves Red Bull.

The Formula 1 world is abuzz with rumours surrounding the future of Max Verstappen, the four-time world champion who is considered the best driver on the grid. According to recent reports, the Dutchman is in talks with four top teams – McLaren, Ferrari, Mercedes and Aston Martin – to secure his future in the sport. With Red Bull Racing struggling with a less competitive car, these teams are trying to seize the opportunity to bring Verstappen on board. But will the superstar retain his loyalty to Red Bull, or is a sensational transfer in the pipeline?

Verstappen’s unrivalled talent has been on full display again this season. Despite the RB21 being only the fourth-best car on the grid according to Fernando Alonso, the Dutchman continues to deliver exceptional performances, fighting for podiums and victories even when the car doesn’t seem technically capable. This consistency has made him the most sought-after driver in Formula 1, especially now that Red Bull’s past dominance appears to be fading. The team’s internal turmoil, combined with the departure of key figures such as Adrian Newey and the move to its own engine project in 2026, has fuelled speculation about a possible move.

F1 steward Derek Warwick, a veteran figure in the sport, has further fueled the rumours by confirming that Verstappen is in talks with four teams. “Obviously he’s in talks with all the teams, but when you say ‘all the teams’ it’s really just McLaren, Ferrari, Mercedes and maybe Aston Martin,” Warwick said in an interview with betting site Plejmo. Each of these teams offers unique opportunities. McLaren currently dominate the championship with Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, but a seat for Verstappen would further boost their title chances. Ferrari, with Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton, has a rich history and renewed ambition, while Mercedes, despite a lean period, is confident of its engine advantage for 2026. Aston Martin, the outsider, has an attractive project with the arrival of Adrian Newey and a partnership with Honda, particularly for Verstappen, who has already enjoyed success with both.

Warwick insists Aston Martin would be a “big gamble”, but the financial strength of team owner Lawrence Stroll and the presence of Newey make it a serious option. “If I were Mercedes, would I want to fire George or Kimi? I think the answer to that is no, but the problem is that when the fastest driver in Formula 1 comes knocking on your door, I think he can open the most doors,” he added. Mercedes’ current line-up, featuring George Russell and rookie Kimi Antonelli, is promising, but Warwick suggests that even they are not safe if Verstappen becomes available.

Interestingly, George Russell himself speaks with admiration about Verstappen. “Why wouldn’t they want to sign Max? It’s completely understandable. He’s the best at the moment. He’s a four-time world champion,” Russell said. He emphasizes that his own achievements are his “currency” and that he’s not worried about a possible arrival of Verstappen. This sporting attitude shows Russell’s self-confidence, but also underlines how exceptional Verstappen’s status is in Formula 1.

Still, Warwick believes Verstappen will ultimately remain loyal to Red Bull, especially for 2026. Despite talks with other teams and tempting offers, such as a potential mega-contract from Aston Martin, Verstappen has repeatedly said he feels at home at Red Bull. His contract runs until 2028, but includes performance clauses that allow for an early exit if the team fails to remain competitive. With major rule changes looming in 2026, much will depend on Red Bull’s ability to produce a winning car with its new engine.

For fans, the speculation remains exciting. Verstappen’s future will not only determine his own career, but also the dynamics of the entire grid. As he battles for points in Canada at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, where he was already the fastest in FP1, the Formula 1 world watches with bated breath. Will Verstappen continue his legacy at Red Bull, or will he opt for a new challenge at McLaren, Ferrari, Mercedes or Aston Martin? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain: where Verstappen goes, success follows.
