His life is violently disrupted when a group of warriors from a nearby city raid his village, capturing him and many others to be used as slaves or human sacrifices.
Jaguar Paw manages to hide his pregnant wife and young son in a deep hole before being captured. As he is taken to the city, he witnesses the brutality and decadence of the declining Maya civilization.
Faced with the prospect of being sacrificed, Jaguar Paw escapes and embarks on a perilous journey back to his village to save his family.
