Interim UFC Heavyweight Champion Tom Aspinall has had enough — and he’s not holding back. In a fiery interview that’s shaking up the MMA world, Aspinall launched a scathing critique of Jon Jones and the UFC, accusing the reigning undisputed champion of stalling the division and using money as an excuse to avoid real challengers.
“Jon needs more money now? Are you kidding me?” Aspinall snapped. “How many millions does he need before he actually defends that belt? This is heavyweight — not Hollywood.”
Aspinall’s frustration comes after months of uncertainty surrounding Jones’ return. The pound-for-pound legend has been out of action since defeating Ciryl Gane in March 2023 and was originally scheduled to face Stipe Miocic before an injury sidelined him. In the meantime, Aspinall claimed interim gold with a stunning knockout victory and has been campaigning for a unification bout ever since.
“I respect Jon’s legacy — he’s one of the greatest, no doubt,” Aspinall admitted. “But this isn’t the time to play games. I’m ready, the fans are ready, the division is dying for clarity. And what’s Jon doing? Negotiating in the shadows.”
According to insiders, Jones is seeking a lucrative payday for what he claims will be one of the final fights of his career — potentially against Miocic, not Aspinall.
That suggestion didn’t sit well with the British star.
“Stipe hasn’t fought in what? Three years? Let’s be honest — Jon wants a retirement tour, not a real fight. But if he’s serious about being the best heavyweight, he needs to go through me.”
The UFC has yet to make any official announcement regarding the heavyweight title picture, but UFC President Dana White has previously stated his intention to book Jones vs. Miocic “when both are ready.”
For Aspinall, the waiting game is becoming unbearable — and personal.
“I didn’t win the interim belt to sit on the sidelines. I want to unify. I want to fight the best. If Jon can’t do that, then vacate the belt and let the division move on.”
With growing pressure from fans and rising stars like Aspinall calling for action, the UFC may soon be forced to choose: legacy or legitimacy?
One thing’s clear — Tom Aspinall isn’t staying silent, and he’s coming for the crown.
