Country music legend Martina McBride has stirred up controversy by calling out Beyoncé for what she perceives as the pop icon’s inappropriate appropriation of country culture. The sharp critique, delivered during a recent interview, has sparked a heated debate about genre boundaries and artistic authenticity.  

McBride, known for her powerhouse vocals and enduring hits like *Independence Day*, didn’t hold back when discussing Beyoncé’s recent forays into country aesthetics. “Country music is about authenticity,” McBride stated. “You can’t just throw on a cowboy hat and call yourself country. It’s a lifestyle, a heritage—not a costume.”  

The comment was seemingly directed at Beyoncé’s high-profile nods to country culture in her music and performances, most notably her rendition of *Daddy Lessons* from her *Lemonade* album, which received both praise and criticism from country purists.  

Beyoncé’s *Daddy Lessons* was introduced as a country-inspired track, earning a Grammy nomination in the country category and receiving a live performance with the Dixie Chicks at the 2016 CMA Awards. While many applauded her ability to cross genres, some, like McBride, felt it diluted the essence of country music.  

“Beyoncé is an incredible artist, no question about it,” McBride clarified. “But country music is deeply rooted in tradition. You can’t just dip in and out of it when it’s convenient.”
