LeBron James: Legacy Secure, Nothing Left to Prove as He Enters 22nd NBA Season with Son Bronny
LeBron James, one of basketball’s greatest icons, says his legacy is already cemented as he prepares for his 22nd NBA season—his first alongside his teenage son, Bronny James. Despite having nothing left to prove, James remains excited about the upcoming season.
The Los Angeles Lakers forward, a four-time NBA champion and the league’s all-time leading scorer, also led Team USA to a gold medal at this summer’s Paris Olympics, earning his third Olympic title.

“Is there anything left for me to achieve as a basketball player? No,” James stated during the Lakers’ first day of training camp. “Everything else is extra credit, but I’ll take it. I love what I do, and I’ve already got everything.”
This season marks a milestone for James, who will finally realize his dream of playing alongside his 19-year-old son Bronny, drafted by the Lakers as the 55th pick in this year’s NBA draft. The father-son duo is set to share the court under first-time head coach JJ Redick, but LeBron plans to serve as an “extension of the coaching staff on the floor.”
“I’ll lead by example and with my voice, which is very commanding,” LeBron emphasized.
Reflecting on the Lakers’ first-round playoff loss to the Denver Nuggets last season, James identified transition defense as a key area for improvement. He urged the team to hold each other accountable and demand more from one another to become a top-five defensive team.
The Lakers open their regular season on October 17, hosting the Minnesota Timberwolves
